Eliquis 5mg Tablet Eliquis 5mg tablets are a medicine known as an anticoagulant or blood thinner. It helps prevent and treat blood clots. Eliquis 5mg tablets are often used to prevent blood clots in patients with an irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation). It also reduces the risk of blood clots in patients undergoing elective knee or hip replacement surgery. Side effects of Eliquis 5mg tablets Bleeding Low blood pressure Dizziness Sensation Low hemoglobin levels Anemia Dosage Overdose Overdosing on Eliquis 5 mg tablets increases the risk of bleeding. Forgetting to take your medicine If you forget to take your Eliquis 5 mg tablet, take it as soon as you remember. Drug Interactions There are medications that may affect the way Eliquis 5 mg tablets work, or Eliquis 5mg tablets may decrease the effects of other medications taken at the same time. Eliquis 5mg tablets are not recommended for patients taking antifungal medications such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, and posaconazole; HIV medications such as ritonavir; anti-tuberculosis medications such as rifampin; medicine use for epilepsy such as phenytoin, carbamazepine, and phenobarbital; and antidepressants such as paroxetine, fluoxetine, and diazepam. Taking anticoagulants such as warfarin together with painkillers such as acetylsalicylic acid and strong painkillers such as aspirin increases the risk of bleeding. Other drugs such as diltiazem, verapamil (used to treat high blood pressure), enoxaparin and clopidogrel (used as an anticoagulant) should be used with caution in combination with Eliquis 5 mg tablets. Tell your doctor about any medications, supplements, and herbs you are currently taking or may take to avoid interactions.
